Arjan van Timmeren appointed Scientific Director of AMS Institute.

AMS Institute is a new ambitious scientific institute located in Amsterdam. In this institute science, education, government, business partners and societal organizations are working tightly together to create solutions for the complex challenges a metropolitan region like Amsterdam is facing.

In his new position as Scientific Director, Prof Van Timmeren’s responsibilities include guiding the AMS Institute through the rapid further development and execution of an innovative and creative research and valorisation portfolio, as well as overseeing education and data platform activities. In this role, he will be working with a team of AMS scientists from Delft University of Technology (TU Delft), Wageningen University and Massachusetts Institute of Technology. In addition to the Scientific Directorship, Prof Van Timmeren will also continue to chair his Environmental Technology & Design research group part-time at TU Delft.

Arjan van Timmeren’s research group is, together with DNV GL, Ville de Grenoble and Amsterdam Smart City leading the Social Monitoring Work Package of City-zen. His research focusses on the societal aspects of innovation. Which parameters determine the acceptability of society to embrace technological or process innovations?
